Destination Weddings - The Basics

Home » Wedding Location »

A destination wedding can be less expensive than a traditional wedding. Of course, it depends on the location chosen. What is a destination wedding? Perhaps you know it as eloping. Using the phrase “destination wedding” sounds more eloquent then eloping. Don’t let the phrase fool you. It’s the same idea except with possibly a little more class. Of course, that depends on where you decide to go.

Basically, you would be traveling to a different place for your wedding. The bride and groom can be the only ones in attendance. If the couple wish to have others, then a small guest list, including close friends and family, would be appropriate. If you don’t want all the pomp and circumstance or just want a different venue, a destination wedding is perfect. Destinations such as a tropical island, Disney, Europe, Mexico or an exotic location of your choice can be included. Don’t forget that even places within the United States are among the list for destination weddings as well.

Fly to the location of your choice for your wedding and reception. If you hate to be the center of attention, small and private may be the way to go. This is obviously easy to do as you are only inviting very close ones, especially family to a destination wedding. Guests would have to able to afford the expenses to travel to your wedding. If you find some packages, it will save them tons of money. Then you are sure the travel is affordable for most so they can attend. To make your wedding day more special, you need your family and close friends by your side.

Stress runs high just from traveling. To make it easier, hire a wedding consultant from the chosen area and lots of the work will be done for you. If you hire a personal wedding consultant, you won’t have to worry about a place to stay or recreation for the family in the time before or after the wedding.

If you prefer to make all the plans yourself, there are several things to keep in mind. Be sure to mention you are getting married as many have a wedding and honeymoon package to offer. Find local things to do for those that will be there a day or two before and after your wedding. Search all B&B’s and Inns in the area. Because it’s your family and maybe close friends, you want them to feel extra comfortable and feel like this is a mini vacation. Often the bed and breakfasts and Inns have special amenities that will make them feel at home and as if they are living in luxury.

Enjoy the whole weekend at your fantasy destination. Find activities that will relax you and the wedding party (if any) before the actual day. Locate the local spa, massage therapist, salon, cafes and restaurants. Make this a memorable occasion for your guests. As the bride and groom enjoy being alone, every guest should occupy themselves indulging in festivities. Prepare in every way for the ultimate destination wedding.
