Months, weeks and days before the wedding is a stressful time for the mother of the bride as well. If you are a bride, you’ll do well to remember this as you will be spending much time with your mother during this pre-wedding period. Having a daughter engaged is a special time for parents. Mothers especially await the time to see their children find a true love. Although the stress level and emotions may run high, mothers are always by their daughter’s side at all times especially at this most important one.

Responsibilities among the mother of the bride include that of helping to choose the gown, attending any showers, the rehearsal dinner and most of all, being their for the bride when necessary. While there are many responsibilities, moms want to look beautiful and enjoy the festivities of the wedding and reception. Traditionally, the mother of the bride should have first choice as to dress preference before the mother of the groom. Mothers do not have to match each other nor do they have to match the bride. They should compliment the bride perhaps by having a similar color to the bridesmaids’ dresses. For instance, maybe a different shade from the bridesmaids’ dresses is available for the mother of the bride and groom. Make sure that you take into consideration what the bride thinks by asking her opinion on colors and styles.

Depending on how involved you want to be, there may be lists of things for you to do. If your daughter decides to use a wedding consultant, your jobs as mother of the bride just got easier. Therefore, you can enjoy every minute doting over your daughter and the son soon to be added to your family. As a mother of the bride, several things are expected and some are understood although maybe never stated. Brides may expect their mom to act a certain way and know the rules of etiquette. If not, then your mom may do well to find out some of them on her own. This is will show that you have respect and honor for your daughter who will soon be a wife.

Mothers have a lot to offer so allow your mom to give advice. Whether you agree or not, remember to respect your mother at all times. Mothers, both of the bride and the groom, have to remember this is a most important day for their daughter and son. In no way should the attention be taken away from them. This would mean that moms want to look their best so as to compliment the bride but not take away from her or even match her in any way. Many mothers decide to stay away from colors such as ivory, champagne or white. Colors such as lavender, blue, ice pink or fall colors that are a little darker do well to compliment the bride.
